Transitional Housing – Hope House
Hope House
Hope House is the first American home for up to 13 adult asylum seekers. Hope House residents are encouraged to engage with Portland’s people and places and take advantage of the many resources offered both in-house and by others. We provide one-on-one support and cultural and educational activities in a warm, family-like environment.
Who is eligible for housing at Hope House?
Hope House invites men and women asylum seekers who are:
- New to the U.S. who are homeless (staying at the city shelter or sleeping on a friend’s sofa)
- In the community alone without other family members
- Interested in living in a community with other asylum seekers.

Same mission, same services - just a new address for now
August 2025: Hope Acts has relocated to the YMCA at 70 Forest Avenue, Portland, while our service hub and transitional housing are fully renovated to help us better serve our clients. We'll welcome clients at our temporary home inside the YMCA for about 9 months. Programs and services will continue at the YMCA. The work permit clinic at the library is not affected by our move. Staff contact info is unchanged.
